Ara Falls

Ara Bike Path
Learn about the Ara Falls, an artificial waterfall on the Ara Canal.

Ara Falls (아라폭포; map) sits midway down Ara Bike Path. Designers modeled this 50-meter-tall, 150-meter-wide artificial waterfall after Inwang Jesaekdo (인왕제색도), a Joseon Dynasty painting known as “After the Rain at Mount Inwang,” a mountain in downtown Seoul (map).

Ara Falls doesn’t pour 24/7, however. When the weather’s clear, four or five times a day, workers turn on the taps for an hour-long show.

  • 11:30 AM ~ 12:30 PM
  • 1:30 PM ~ 2:30 PM
  • 3:30 ~ 4:30 PM
  • 5:00 ~ 6:00 PM
  • 6:30 PM ~ 7:30 PM (Sat, Sun)

Near to Ara Falls hangs this Ara Observatory (아라마루전망대; map). This free-to-use, glass-bottom walkway perches forty-five meters over the Ara Waterway Canal.

Ara Rest Stop (아라마루휴게소; map; road view) sits next to the Observatory. It offers a restaurant, convenience store, and cafe overlooking the canal.
