The Animation Museum (애니메이션박물관; map), just west of downtown Chuncheon City (map) on the Bukhangang Bike Path, celebrates the history and art of animation.

Since opening in 2003, it has showcased Korea’s rich animation heritage while exploring global influences on the medium. The museum blends exhibits with interactive experiences, offering something for animation fans of all ages.

Visitors to the Animation Museum can embark on an in-depth journey through the world of animation, discovering how it has evolved over decades. Some of the most notable features include:

  • Original Artifacts: Rare and iconic pieces such as sketches, storyboards, and animation cells from famous productions allow visitors to see the meticulous craftsmanship behind celebrated animated works. These artifacts offer a window into the creative process of both Korean and international studios.

Korean Animation on the Global Stage

The Animation Museum highlights Korea’s role in the global animation industry. Toy Robot Studio

Sharing the same courtyard as the Animation Museum, the Toy Robot Studio (토이 로봇관; map) is an experiential exhibition hall that presents a vision of future robotics. The studio offers various experience programs related to robots, featuring experimental robots, robot avatars, and reproductions of movie scenes. Its interesting robot programs include Spider Robot, Mission Robot, Robot Avatar, Robot Dance, Drone Experience, and more. ​

Hyunam-ri So Park

Surrounding the Animation and Toy Robot museums complex is Hyunam-ri So Park (현암리소공원), a tranquil lakeside park that provides visitors with a place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

The park features walking paths, picnic areas, and scenic views of Uiam Lake, making it an ideal spot for families and groups to unwind before or after exploring the museum and studio.​

Brush Story Museum

Nearby, the Brush Story Museum (붓이야기박물관; map) offers a unique glimpse into the art and history of traditional Korean brush-making. Established by master craftsman Park Kyung-soo, designated as Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 24, this museum showcases the evolution, craftsmanship, and cultural significance of Korean brushes.

Visitors can explore exhibits detailing the history and production methods of brushes, view various types of brushes, and even participate in hands-on experiences such as making their own brush or trying their hand at calligraphy.​
