Gangchon Rail Park

Bukhangang Bike Path

Gangchon Rail Park (강촌레일파크; map), located in Chuncheon City (춘천시; map), is a pedal powered rail bike that travels along the decommissioned Gyeongchun Line, providing scenic views of the North Han River and surrounding landscapes.

The park operates on the former Gyeongchun Line, a historic railway that connected Seoul to Chuncheon for over 70 years before its decommissioning in 2010. The transformation of this defunct railway into a recreational rail biking course allows visitors to pedal through picturesque countryside, offering a blend of physical activity and cultural nostalgia.

The rail bike course is approximately 8.5 kilometers long, divided into two sections: a 6-kilometer rail bike ride and a 2.5-kilometer journey on the Romantic Train. Along the route, riders pass through themed tunnels, each offering unique sensory experiences, and enjoy views of mountains, fields, and the North Han River.

Rail Biking Courses

Gangchon Rail Park offers two distinct routes, each combining scenic views:

  • Gimyujeong Rail Bike: This 8.5-kilometer course begins at Gimyujeong Station and concludes at the old Gangchon Station. The route features several themed tunnels, including the Pinwheel Tunnel and Milky Way Tunnel, each offering distinct sensory experiences.
  • Gyeonggang Rail Bike: Departing from Gyeonggang Station, this 7.2-kilometer round trip is tailored for pet enthusiasts, offering a “pet bike” option for small dogs. The course traverses elevated tracks, providing expansive views of the North Han River and the surrounding greenery.
