Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road

Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road (신창풍차해안도로; map) is a section of coastal road lined with rows of offshore wind turbines, part of Jeju’s renewable energy program. The views include white towers with blades swooping over the seaside, with Chagwido Island in the distance.

The center of the coastal road includes raised pedestrian walkways that extend from roadway (road view). The circular walking path leads around bases of the wind turbines and down to the breakwater at Sinchang Lighthouse. Along the way, visitors pass sculptures set in the shallow waters, including a statue of a haenyeo diver and the jabbari sang grouper figure.

At low tide, basalt rock, tidal pools, and remnants of stone fishing traps appear along the shore. The area is especially popular at sunset, when the turbines, lighthouse, and volcanic coast form one of Jeju’s most photographed scenes.

Singgye Water Park

Singgye Water Park (싱계물공원; map) or “Singgye Mul” sits near a natural freshwater spring that flows into the Korea Strait along the coast.

The spring was once vital for residents of Sinchang, feeding the surrounding villages with fresh drinking water before running water became widespread. Many haenyeo (female divers) used this freshwater site after their dives.

Today, it’s maintained the park doubles as a local rest area and includes a quiet cultural site with a monument and shaded pavilions.

Sinchang Lighthouse

Sinchang Lighthouse (신창등대; map) stands on a breakwater at the apex of Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road’s raised paths. The white tower is modest in size, but acts as an important beacon for fishing vessels returning in fog or darkness.

The lighthouse complements the offshore wind turbines and black basalt coast. Visitors can walk the breakwater up to the lighthouse and crashing waves. Framed by the turbines and sea, it remains a popular photo spot, especially in the evening.
